Directions

Step One:
Melt (5–10 min) β€” combine shea butter, cocoa butter, and coconut oil in a heat-safe bowl over a double boiler. Once fully melted and mixed, strain and place in the refrigerator until cool and the top begins to harden slightly.
Step Two:
Add peppermint & whip (3–4 min) β€” stir in the peppermint essential oil, then blend with a mixer on high speed for 3–4 minutes or longer, until light and creamy.
Step Three:
Jar (1 min) β€” spoon your whipped body butter into a clean, airtight glass jar.

Pro Tips:

Before you start
  • The cooler the mixture when you whip it, the lighter and fluffier the result β€” just make sure your mixer is up to it
  • Peppermint is potent β€” start with a few drops, whip, and add more to taste
  • Patch test on the inner arm before full use, especially on sensitive skin

Frequently Asked Questions

Is peppermint essential oil included in the kit?
Yes β€” the kit includes peppermint essential oil alongside the shea butter, cocoa butter, and traditional coconut oil, so you have everything you need for the full recipe. Prefer it unscented? Simply leave the peppermint out for a classic whipped body butter, or add your own favourite essential oil instead.
How long does the finished body butter last?
Your finished body butter will keep for 6 to 12 months when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Because it contains no water, no preservative is needed. Using a clean, dry spoon each time helps extend the shelf life.
Is peppermint safe for sensitive skin?
Peppermint essential oil is generally well tolerated in small amounts, but it is potent β€” start with just a few drops and always do a patch test on your inner arm before applying more widely. For very sensitive skin, you can reduce the amount or leave it out entirely; the base butters are gentle on their own. Not recommended for babies or very young children.
Am I a beginner β€” can I do this?
Absolutely. If you can melt butter and use a hand mixer, you can make this body butter. The whole process takes about 30 minutes: melt, cool, add peppermint, whip, and jar. Full instructions are also included on the packaging via QR code.
What size kit should I buy?
Kits use easy β€œparts” sizing β€” equal parts shea and cocoa butter with half as much coconut oil β€” so the recipe scales to any amount you like. Smaller sizes are perfect for a first batch or a gift; larger sizes suit regular use or making batches for family and friends.
Does this support women in Ghana?
Yes, directly. The shea butter in your kit is hand-processed by women like Joyce Issiah of the Kpillah community, part of the Konjeihi Women's Enterprise Centre in Ghana's Upper West Region. Every purchase supports fair wages, children's education, and community infrastructure through a direct fair-trade relationship β€” no middlemen taking a cut.
