โœ” Traditional, handcrafted and unrefined โœ” No fillers, additives or mystery ingredients โœ” Ethically sourced from women's cooperatives in Ghana The Ultra-Rich Botanical Blend DIY Recipe Kit brings together four of Ghana's most treasured unrefined botanical ingredients โ€” shea butter, cocoa butter, traditional coconut oil, and rare kombo butter โ€” into one complete kit for crafting a cloud-like whipped body butter at home in about 30 minutes. Kombo butter โ€” exceptionally rich in myristoleic acid and traditionally valued in West African communities for centuries โ€” is the hero ingredient that makes this kit genuinely distinctive. The 2:2:1:1 ratio balances deep hydration, protective emollience, light texture, and kombo's traditionally celebrated botanical properties in every batch. All four ingredients are traditional, hand-made, and completely unrefined, sourced directly from Ghana's cooperatives, forest communities, and coastal farms. Each purchase supports women's cooperatives in Ghana, making this more than just skincare โ€“ it's a heartfelt contribution to sustainable craftsmanship.

Here's everything you need

Ingredients

Shea Butter
2 parts ยท deep penetrating moisture base
Cocoa Butter
2 parts ยท protective barrier + firm whipping structure
Coconut Oil
1 part ยท lightens texture, natural antimicrobial properties
Kombo Butter
1 part ยท hero ingredient, exceptionally rich in myristoleic acid

You'll also need from home

Double boiler
To gently melt your butters
Strainer & hand mixer
To strain the melt and whip to a cloud-like texture
Clean airtight glass jar
To store your finished body butter

Directions

Step One:
Melt (5โ€“10 min) โ€” combine shea butter, cocoa butter, kombo butter, and coconut oil in a heat-safe bowl over a double boiler. Once fully melted and mixed, strain and place in the refrigerator until cool and the top begins to harden slightly.
Step Two:
Whip (3โ€“4 min) โ€” blend with a mixer on high speed for 3โ€“4 minutes or longer, until you reach the consistency you want. Optional: add essential oils before the final whip.
Step Three:
Jar (1 min) โ€” spoon your whipped body butter into a clean, airtight glass jar.

Pro Tips:

Before you start
  • The cooler it is when you whip, the lighter and fluffier the result โ€” but it takes a strong mixer
  • Whipped while slightly warmer, the texture is firmer and denser โ€” less air, more butter per scoop
  • Kombo's natural chocolate-earthy aroma pairs well with peppermint or eucalyptus essential oils

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes kombo butter special?
Kombo butter is exceptionally rich in myristoleic acid โ€” a naturally occurring fatty acid that is rare in most botanical butters โ€” and has been traditionally valued in West African communities for centuries. It gives this blend its distinctive character and natural earthy aroma, and it's the reason this is our most premium four-butter formulation.
What does the finished butter smell like?
It has a natural chocolate-earthy-tropical aroma from the cocoa butter, kombo butter, and traditional coconut oil โ€” warm and natural rather than perfumed. You can leave it as is, or add essential oils before the final whip; peppermint and eucalyptus pair especially well with kombo.
How long does the finished butter last?
Your finished body butter will keep for 6 to 12 months when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. The raw ingredients keep for 2+ years when stored properly. Because the blend contains no water, no preservative is needed.
Is this kit right for beginners?
Yes, with a small step up: it's the same melt, strain, cool, and whip process as our simpler kits, done in about 30 minutes โ€” there's just one more ingredient to measure with the 2:2:1:1 ratio. If you can use a double boiler and a hand mixer, you can absolutely make this. Full step-by-step instructions are available online with every kit.
What size kit should I buy?
The 2:2:1:1 ratio uses parts, so the recipe scales to any size โ€” for example, 50g each of shea and cocoa butter with 25g each of coconut oil and kombo butter. Kits come in sizes from 50g to 2kg of each ingredient: the 50g or 100g sizes are perfect for a first batch, while larger sizes suit regular use or gifting.
Does this support women in Ghana?
Yes, directly. The shea butter in your kit is hand-processed by women like Daree Akosua of the Bilang community, part of the Konjeihi Women's Enterprise Centre in Ghana's Upper West Region. Every purchase supports fair wages, children's education, and community infrastructure through a direct fair-trade relationship โ€” no middlemen taking a cut.
