✔ Traditional, handcrafted and unrefined ✔ No fillers, additives or mystery ingredients ✔ Ethically sourced from women's cooperatives in Ghana Introducing our Shea Bliss Botanical Blend DIY Recipe Kit – four of Ghana's most powerful unrefined botanical ingredients in one complete kit. Craft a deeply nourishing, multi-benefit body butter at home in about 30 minutes using shea butter, kombo butter, cocoa butter, and vitamin-rich red palm oil. Shea butter provides the deep moisture base, kombo butter contributes its traditionally celebrated myristoleic acid, cocoa butter creates a protective skin-smoothing barrier, and red palm oil delivers beta-carotene and vitamins A and E for a warm, radiant glow. All four ingredients are traditional, hand-made, and completely unrefined — sourced directly from Ghana's cooperatives, forest communities, and small-scale farms. Each purchase supports women's cooperatives in Ghana, making this more than just skincare – it's a heartfelt contribution to sustainable craftsmanship and your daily comfort and care.

Cocoa Butter
1 part (e.g. 50g) · protective, skin-smoothing barrier
Red Palm Oil

Optional
Baraka Cocoa Powder and/or an essential oil of your choice

You'll also need from home

Double boiler To gently melt your butters
Fine Strainer Strain into your cooling dish for a smooth finish
Hand Mixer For whipping to a light, fluffy consistency
Containers with covers To store, gift, or sell your finished butter

Directions

Step One:
Melt — weigh out the butters and red palm oil and melt in a double boiler. When melted, strain into a cooling dish you can whip in later.
Step Two:
Cool — leave to cool (the fridge works, but stir frequently or it will be hard on the outside and still liquid in the centre). If using cocoa powder or essential oils, add them as you start to mix.
Step Three:
Whip & package — whip until light and fluffy (more whipping gives a softer, airier butter), then spoon or pipe into containers, cover, and label.

Pro Tips:

  • Stir frequently while cooling — otherwise the outside hardens while the centre stays liquid
  • More whipping = a softer, fluffier butter (you may need extra containers to hold it all)
  • Red palm oil absorbs quickly but its natural colour can stain fabrics — keep it off sheets and clothes until absorbed

Frequently Asked Questions

Will red palm oil stain my skin or clothes?
Yes — when made without essential oils. The base recipe (shea butter, cocoa butter, baobab oil, and coconut oil) is gentle enough for newborn skin. We recommend skipping essential oils entirely for babies under 3 months. For older babies, lavender or chamomile can be used — 1 to 2 drops maximum. As with any new product, do a patch test on a small area of skin first.
How much of each ingredient do I use?
The recipe uses equal amounts of all four ingredients — shea butter, kombo butter, cocoa butter, and red palm oil. For example, 50g of each. Feel free to experiment by using more of some and less of others. You can also add optional Baraka Cocoa Powder or an essential oil of your choice as you start to mix.
How long does the finished body butter last?
The raw ingredients keep for 2+ years when stored properly. Your finished whipped body butter will keep for 6 to 12 months in a covered container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Using a clean, dry spoon each time helps extend the shelf life.
Am I a beginner — can I do this?
Yes — this kit is beginner to intermediate. The process is simple: measure, melt, cool, whip, and package, and it’s done in about 30 minutes. The main thing to watch is the cooling stage: stir frequently so the mixture cools evenly, then whip until light and fluffy.
What size kit should I buy?
Kits come in sizes from 50g up to 2kg of each ingredient. The DIY size (50g of each) makes a generous first batch — perfect for trying the recipe or gifting. Larger sizes give the best value for regular makers and bigger batches, and you can top up individual ingredients from our store.
Does this support women in Ghana?
Yes, directly. Your butters are sourced from Ghana’s cooperatives and communities, including the Konjeihi Women’s Enterprise Centre in the Upper West Region, where women like Justina Nadi hand-process shea using traditional methods. The red palm oil is sustainably sourced from small-scale farmers in Ghana. Every purchase provides a fair-trade premium without intermediaries.
