Baraka Cocoa Butter is made from sustainably grown and community harvested cocoa beans. Originating from small-holder farms, the beans are harvested and prepared using traditional techniques.
As our cocoa butter is crafted in small batches, some natural variation in scent is normal. Occasionally, the cocoa butter may have a stronger roasted chocolate scent.
Making A Direct Impact In The Community
In this video the women are preparing the freshly-fermented cocoa beans that will be made into Baraka Cocoa Butter.
As you can see, the whole process is done right in the community and it's common to see husbands and wives working together in this process.
The women are the ones who usually own the farms, but the whole process is a team effort. Once these pods are taken back to the community, they are split open to get the seeds which are laid out and sheltered with plantain leaves. The heat ferments the seeds in about 6 to 10 days. Then, the seeds are laid out again to completely dry before turning them into cocoa butter!
